Pinterest MCP server

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI assistants use to call outside tools. Add PintDownload once and your assistant can turn a Pinterest link into download links without you leaving the chat. It is free, needs no account and works only with public content, the same as the website.

What your assistant can do

Five read-only tools: one that tells link types apart, and four that fetch a pin, a board, a profile or a profile picture. Those four give your assistant links on pintdownload.app that save the file with a clean name, plus the link back to the source on Pinterest so it can credit the creator.

  Download links for one pin: the HD image, the MP4 video and its available qualities, the GIF, or every slide of a carousel or Idea Pin. Works with pinterest.com/pin/… links and pin.it short links.

  The pins on a public board, in board order, each with a download link. 20 pins per call by default and up to 50, paged with a cursor. The first 250 pins of a board are reachable.

Connect your app

Pick your app. Each one needs only the server URL; there is nothing to install and no key to create.

Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop and mobile)

1. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors, select + Add, then Add custom connector.
2. Name it PintDownload, paste the server URL below and select Continue.
3. Under Authentication, choose No sign in, then select Add.

The Free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans an Owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors (Add, then Custom → Web), and each member then selects Connect under Customize → Connectors.

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal. It adds the server for you in the current project:

VS Code (GitHub Copilot)

For Copilot in agent mode, add the server to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace. To use it in every workspace, run MCP: Open User Configuration from the Command Palette and add it there instead.

VS Code reads servers, not mcpServers.

ChatGPT

1. In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, select +, then Add custom MCP server.
2. Name it PintDownload and paste the server URL as the Server URL.
3. Choose No authentication, confirm the warning, select Create as a plugin, then install it.

Custom MCP servers depend on your ChatGPT plan and your workspace settings, so the option may not appear for you. On some accounts it is under Settings → Apps with Developer mode turned on.

Other apps

Any app that connects to remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP without sign-in can use PintDownload. Give it the server URL, https://pintdownload.app/mcp. Apps that only support the older HTTP+SSE transport can’t connect.

Try asking

Once it is connected, ask in plain words and paste a real public link where these placeholders are:

• Get the download links for this pin: https://pin.it/…
• List the first 20 pins on https://www.pinterest.com/username/board-name/ with a download link for each.
• Get the profile picture of @username on Pinterest in the largest size.

If you are not sure what kind of link you have, your assistant can check it first. Results come back as download links; open one to save the file, or ask your assistant to list them.

Limits

• Public pins, boards and profiles only. Private or secret boards and deleted pins can’t be fetched.
• Images top out at Pinterest’s largest public size, 1200 px wide. There is no 4K. Video qualities depend on what Pinterest published for that pin.
• Boards return their first 250 pins and profiles their first 200, 20 per call by default and up to 50.
• A fair-use rate limit allows about 30 tool calls a minute from one IP address (for IPv6, one /48 network), and at most 5 in a single request. Claude and ChatGPT connect from their own shared servers, so their users share that limit. There is also an overall cap on lookups per region, so heavy use by others can briefly slow everyone down. If your assistant reports a rate limit, wait a minute and ask again.
• To save a whole board or profile as one ZIP file, use the board downloader or the profile downloader on the website.

Credit the creator

Every download result links back to the source on Pinterest (the pin, board or profile) and, when Pinterest shows it, gives the creator’s username. When you reuse media, credit the creator and link the source pin, and respect their rights as described in our terms of service.

Titles, descriptions and board names are written by Pinterest users, so the server returns them in a separate field marked as untrusted. Your assistant should quote that text, never follow instructions found in it.

Privacy

The MCP server does not store links you send or the media it finds. Your IP address is used briefly to apply rate limits. Like the rest of the site, it may keep short-lived technical logs for diagnostics and abuse prevention, as described in the privacy policy.

For developers

• Endpoint: POST https://pintdownload.app/mcp, Streamable HTTP transport.
• Protocol 2026-07-28, plus 2025-era clients (2025-11-25, 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26) through the initialize handshake.
• Stateless: no sessions, no sign-in, no cookies. GET and DELETE return 405.
• Tools only, no prompts or resources. Every tool is read-only, declares an input and an output schema, and returns structuredContent with the same JSON as text.
• Problems your assistant can act on (a wrong link type, a private board, a bad cursor, a rate limit) come back as tool errors with a code and a message, for example wrong_link_type or rate_limited.
• Download links use the website’s own endpoint, /api/download?url=…&filename=…, and only point at Pinterest’s image and video CDN.
• Requests without an Origin header (desktop apps, CLIs, hosted connectors) are accepted. Browser pages can call it only from pintdownload.app and localhost.

Questions

Is the PintDownload MCP server free?

Yes. There is no account, no API key and no sign-in. A fair-use rate limit keeps it working for everyone.

Do I need a Pinterest account?

No. It reads public Pinterest pages the same way the website does, so you never sign in to Pinterest or share your password.

Can it download private or secret boards?

No. Private and secret boards and deleted pins cannot be fetched. Only content that anyone can see without signing in works.

Why are images 1200 px wide and not 4K?

1200 px wide is the largest size Pinterest serves publicly. Original uploads are not public, and PintDownload does not upscale images or label them 4K.

Which apps work with it?

Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop and mobile), Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, and ChatGPT where your plan allows custom MCP servers. Any other app that supports remote Streamable HTTP MCP servers without sign-in works too.

Does PintDownload see my chats?

No. It only receives what your assistant sends when it calls a tool: the Pinterest link and options such as how many pins to list.
